THE TAJPUR TRAVEL GUIDE
WHERE: Tajpur, Near Digha (180 km from Kolkata)
WHEN: Any time except during peak summer(unless you wanna get burnt!)
HOW: Best way is by a road trip which takes around 4 hours. Alternately, take the train to Ramnagar station (170 km and catch a taxi from there (10 km)
WHY: This is one of the many beaches dotting the Bengal coast. While Digha is the most popular and consequently the most crowded, Tajpur is a quiet little beach with few people, perfect for a relaxing time. Few local beach shacks serve fresh sea food. Beautiful sunsets add to the charm. Do not go expecting a party beach. This one is for getting away from it all.
THINGS TO DO: Spend time at the beach, gorge on some fish and just chill. Also visit nearby Mohana beach where the sea meets the river and watch dried fish being made.
ACCOMODATION: A number of mid ranged beach resorts are available, within walking distance from the beach. We stayed at the Tajpur Retreat and quite like the place. The rooms were clean and a couple minutes walk from the beach. The service was good and they had parking area.
Note: There is scarcity of nearby eating options. you will have to depend on your hotel for food. Fresh seafood along with other limited options are available.
Hope you liked this weekend getaway. What other places would you recommend ?
