I wanted to write something that would cater to all categories of couples: budget, mid range or fancy. In our 8 years of travel, these are my top 10 picks for the most romantic places to visit.

In the last 8 years, we have had some incredible holidays and experiences. We especially love checking out spots a bit away from the tourist radar which helps us escape crowds. Sometimes, romance may not be a specific thing, just the act of travelling together can be romantic in itself.
Dealing with the practicalities of travel can often lead to fights or exhaustion so do try not to get daunted. That is why including some romance in your trip is a great idea to bond and amp up the love. We have never really thought about the romantic aspect specifically while planning a for a trip (except during our honeymoon probably!), but after experiencing these places we have found them romantic enough to include them in this little Valentin’s day guide.
In no particular order, these are the 10 romantic experiences that every travel couple should indulge in.

1. CRUISING IN HALONG BAY
WHAT: Cruising through Halong bay/Bai tu long bay/ Lan ha bay
WHERE: Northern Vietnam, 4 hours by road from Hanoi.
WHO: For the couple that wants an ultimate romantic luxury experience with no expenses spared.
WHY: Wake up to decadent views and picture perfect scenery while cruising through this stunning UNESCO site. Green waters, limestone karsts, fishing villages and hidden beaches will make this one of your most romantic experiences ever.
BUDGET: Mid range to luxury depending on the cruise.
OUR TAKE: One of the most romantic places to visit for sure! We loved our multi day cruise through the bay and felt really isolated and away from it all. If you can, definitely opt for one of the more expensive cruises that guarantee better routes, lesser people and excellent service. 2. SUNSET BOATING AT DAWKI LAKE
WHAT: Boating in the beautiful lake of Dawki
WHERE: West Jaintia district; 82 kms by road from Shillong in the north eastern state of Meghalaya, India.
WHO: For the budget conscious new age adventure couple looking for unique experiences in India away from the crowds.
WHY: Gorgeous turquoise waters with picture perfect views all around.
MONEY MATTERS: Budget
OUR TAKE: This is probably one of the most beautiful places we have visited in India and one of the most romantic places to visit for sure. The colour of the water is so beautiful and crystal clear. Try to time your visit for the late afternoon so that you can have a sunset boat ride, an even more special experience!

3. CHASING SUNSETS AT KOH LANTA
WHAT: Watch stunning sunsets on Koh Lanta
WHERE: Southern island on Thailand’s Andaman coast; 4 hours by ferry from Phuket and 3 hours by road from Krabi.
WHO: For the offbeat couple that want to explore a lesser known romantic island without the crowds and high prices.
WHY: Dreamy beaches, stunning sunsets and best of all, minimal people.
BUDGET: Mid range
OUR TAKE: We loved this place and bill this as our island paradise. It definitely is one of the most romantic places to visit in our humble opinion. Such a charming old world island with gorgeous beaches and probably the best sunsets we have ever seen. Think cotton candy pinks to fiery oranges and reds. Watch the sky change colors at Khlong Nin beach or the more dramatic Kantiang bay preferably with a cocktail in hand!

Other places for incredible sunsets: the beaches of Goa, Nahargarh fort in Jaipur, Chao phraya river and Wat Arun in Bangkok and Coconut tree hill in Mirissa.
4. SOAK IN THE HOT SPRINGS OF ICELAND
WHAT: Soaking in the hot springs of Iceland.
WHERE: There are multiple hot springs located throughout the country with some of the most famous ones being the Blue Lagoon and Myvatn nature baths.
WHO: For the adventure loving couple that want to experience something totally new.
WHY: Open air beautiful springs (natural/man made), steaming hot water and the glorious feeling of total relaxation with your partner.
MONEY MATTERS: Budget-Luxury depending on the spring. Many natural hot water springs in Iceland are free!
OUR TAKE: There was something incredibly special in soaking in those hot waters, in the cold weather and under the open sky. We tried two hot water springs in Iceland: the Blue Lagoon(near Keflavik airport) and Krauma hot water baths (Snaefellness peninsula) and absolutely loved the experience. Among the most romantic places to visit (or more appropriately most romantic experiences to have): Sure! Stripping down and sipping some champaigne with your partner, while feeling all your physical stress and mental worries float away under the effect of the hot water and with the beautiful scenery all around, that’s the life!

5. ENJOY A ROMANTIC ROOFTOP DINNER OVERLOOKING WAT ARUN
WHAT: A riverside rooftop dining experience in a Michelin star restaurant.
WHERE: Supanniga Eating House on the banks of Chao Phraya River, Bangkok
WHO: For the super romantic foodie couple who love their meal with a view !
WHY: A stunning view of the beautifully lit up Wat Arun in Bangkok while enjoying some Issan cuisine. Perfect for a unique dining experience.
MONEY MATTERS: Mid Range
OUR TAKE: One of the best experiences for anyone actually and not just couples. The view is enough to dine here atleast once.
6. SUNSET BOATING AT LAKE PICHOLA
WHAT: Boating in the beautiful Lake Pichola
WHERE: In Udaipur, Rajasthan. 500 kms from Jaipur.
WHO: A classic romantic experience for every couple
WHY: Imagine a picture perfect postcard with the shining waters of the lake, the setting sun painting the sky with a myriad hue of colours and the Aravalli mountains in the background.
MONEY MATTERS: Budget (for a shared boat), Mid Range for a private boat
OUR TAKE: This is probably one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited in India. The whole experience was wonderful especially as we chose to have a private boat. The sunset is one of the best in India so make sure to to time your visit for the late afternoon so that you can have a sunset boat ride.
7. EXPLORE THE CHARMING ALLEYS OF HOI AN
WHAT: Getting lost in the pretty alleys of Hoi An.
WHERE: Central Vietnam, 30 kms by road from Danang.
WHO: For the mid range couple that loves a cultural getaway with a heavy dose of romance.
WHY: Picturesque and extremely photogenic streets filled with preserved houses, restored temples and colourful lanterns hanging all around town.
MONEY MATTERS: Mid range
OUR TAKE: Hoi An is our top choice for the most romantic places to visit in Asia! In fact, it has been voted amongst the most romantic places to visit in the world.
Beautiful, colourful and vibrant: i will run out of adjectives trying to describe Hoi An. Exploring all the little nooks and corners of the pretty alleys with your partner is so romantic and enjoyable. The place is popular, so tends to get overrun by tourists (especially in peak season) but it is easy to duck into a side street and get lost. Take in the sunset at the riverside and add a boat ride as well to increase the romance quotient!

8. ENJOY A ROOFTOP DINNER IN UDAIPUR
WHAT: A rooftop dining experience overlooking Lake Pichola
WHERE: Upre and Ambrai are two of the best places to do this in Udaipur
WHO: For the super romantic foodie couple who love their meal with a view !
WHY: Check out the gorgeous city palace while taking in the view of the lake.
MONEY MATTERS: Mid Range
OUR TAKE: One of the best experiences for anyone actually and not just couples. The view is enough to dine here atleast once.
9. TAKE A SUNSET BOAT RIDE THROUGH THE BACKWATERS OF MIRISSA
WHAT: Boating in the backwaters of Mirissa
WHERE: In Mirissa which is located in Sri Lanka’s southern coast. 3 hours by road from Colombo
WHO: For all couples who love romance with a bit of adventure.
WHY: The backwaters are so beautiful with plenty of lush nature that transports you into a completely relaxed setting. You can come across lots of birds and monitor lizards swimming across the water. The sunset looks picturesque.
MONEY MATTERS: Mid Range
OUR TAKE: It was one of the highlights of our Sri Lanka trip and we were super happy to have this experience. The sunset was beautiful and the greenery made me happy.
10. PLAN A BEACH HOLIDAY IN THE BEAUTIFUL TRANG ISLANDS
WHAT: Enjoying the gorgeous white sand beaches of the Trang islands.
WHERE: A group of 4 pristine and isolated islands located in the Thailand’s southern coast, 4 hours by ferry from Phuket and Krabi. The islands are Koh Ngai, Koh Mook, Koh Kradan and Koh libong.
WHO: For all you beach loving couples (like us!) who crave turquoise waters and pristine beaches minus the hordes of tourists.
WHY: The Trang islands have probably some of the most beautiful beaches in Asia. The water is crystal clear, the sand is white and the vibe is relaxed. This is the place to get away from it all. Leave aside all your stresses and worries and indulge in some couple time away from everyone in these islands.

OUR TAKE: We visited Koh Ngai on a day trip but that visit left me hooked. I fell in love with the place and cant wait to go back for a proper visit. Highly recommend this beach escape for anyone looking for a beautiful experience.
